Old but still Good Stuff

From December 2008

* Focus on sharing the good news - want some good teaching on how to improve your sharing? Ligon Duncan at the Together for the Gospel blog is posting about what they have been doing at his fellowship. He begins with a great summary and then follows up with several more posts.

* 2009 planning: Bible Memory - if you would like some tips and plans on memorizing Scripture throughout 2009, Bethlehem Baptist has some suggestions that I've found really useful over the past couple of years. You can also join in on their Set D Fighter Verses, which gives a handy list for the year. Also, here's a link to a longer article on how to memorize and retain longer passages - (repetition is key!).

* As we're now fully into the Christmas season, this may be a good time to brush up on the story of the first Christmas - what is myth and what is reality.

* Ever need a nifty way to fold a piece of paper into a booklet that you can use as a low tech PDA. The pocketmod is a great little invention. The site even has a template that you can use to create your own.

From October/November 2008

- I hadn't seen this yet. Even reindeer like to go shopping for Christmas.

- I'm always doodling little pictures to help my kids learn Bible verses. This book Back of the Napkin looks like it could really help in using doodles to communicate other ideas too!

- To go along with getting your email inbox to zero, this is a good post on how to write better emails. I've been trying to use both guides with some success over the past week. Let's see if I can keep it up for three weeks in a row.

- Have you ever seen The Lost Coin in Arabic?

- Need some help getting your email inbox to zero? Matt Perman, who is the Director of Strategy for Desiring God, has a helpful guide.

- I read Tedd Tripp's book several years ago, but I really need a refresher course. Which is why I was excited to see Resurgence post his audio and video for his Biblical Parenting conference held at Mars Hill. Looking forward to downloading and listening.

- Fireproof or Religulous - which one has been earning more money at the box office? I haven't seen either one - after all, we do live on the other side of the world. I mean, even though pirated movies get over here quickly . . . not quite that fast. Sure is fun to see this stat, though.

- The 3(D) Guide to making responsible media choices looks like it could be really helfpul. "While many of us mistakenly continue to 'think for' students as they pass through the teenage years on the road to adulthood, the 3(D) Guide enables you to 'think with' students . . . in faithful, obedient, and God-honoring ways."

From September 2008

- Justin Taylor posts an interview that will help the novice get a glimpse at what's causing the banking crisis. I found it helpful, not just for the info, but for the reminder of Who's in control and how to respond from a Christian worldview.

- John Piper shares a little about how he shaped the spiritual atmosphere in his home with his kids.

- The NYT has a cool breakdown of the different words used by speakers at the Democratic and Republican conventions.

- wired.com has a similar but more artistc take on the convention speeches.

From August 2008

--> Do you have little kids? Here's a helpful post on some creative ways to use bedtime prayers to teach Scripture and grow their ability to pray based on truth. Simple but really helpful ideas that I've already started to do with my kids - not just at bed time. (HT: Justin Taylor)

--> And while we're talking about kids, here's a post on discipling children. (HT: Tim Challies)

--> Here's a post about those times when kids lie. "So when you hear your children lie, remember that one of the elements behind the lie is fear—fear of being exposed for who they really are. The answer, of course, is Christ. Even in the midst of hearing their lies, you can have compassion for your children." (HT: Tim Challies)

--> Looks like the folks at Stand To Reason have a pretty good email resource to help you talk about your faith with those around you.--> Speaking of resources for sharing your faith, I found this article at a new blog called "sub*text" to be helpful in thinking about creative ways to bridge into the good news.

------> Can Britain repossess America? It seems like someone is trying to make this happen :). (Hat Tip: Justin Taylor)
